vintage doily appliqued totebag

Out of a pile of donated fabric, I fashioned this small to medium tote bag. This black and white dot is upholstery material, the white lace from an old set of curtains (ruffle), and some black velvety scrap fabric leftover from making some pillows. The white woolen knitted doily was discovered in a local thrift shop. I have to say that when I discover a handmade item in a thrift shop, I usually have mixed feelings. While I am overjoyed to discover a treasure, my heart breaks for the artist that made this delicate darling. It always seems a shame that others do not value her work as I would. So I was inspired to put her hard work to good use and with a little reinforcement stitching, this doily graces the side of a sweet black and white tote bag. Unique and one of a kind embellishments for an original bag. Can’t get much cuter, can you?
